Hiking on the Turracher Höhe

Hiking on the Turracher Höhe

Between pine forests, alpine meadows & mountain lakes
Hiking on the Turracher Höhe means crystal-clear mountain air, scenic routes, and perfectly marked trails – ideal for hikers, runners, Nordic walkers, and trail runners. From Alpin Peaks Hotel & Apartments, you can start your personal nature adventure right away – in the heart of the Nockberge, between Carinthia and Styria.

A true highlight is the largest contiguous Swiss pine forest in Europe, stretching around the alpine lake plateau. Here, rustic alpine huts, crystal-clear mountain lakes, and peaks over 2,000 metres await you – all without the need for alpine equipment.

Right outside our door, the Three Lakes Trail (Turracher See, Grünsee, Schwarzsee) invites you to enjoy a leisurely panoramic loop. For those seeking more challenge, summit tours to Schoberriegel (2,208 m), Rinsennock (2,334 m), Königstuhl (2,336 m), or Eisenhut (2,441 m) – the highest peak in the region – offer rewarding climbs. If you prefer something more untouched, hike through the Weitental to the Kasersee, or across the Schafalm and Winkleralm into the wild and romantic valley of Turrach.

The Barbara Trail leads along historic paths through the region’s former mining area. Especially rewarding: the panoramic summit tour to St. Lorenzen, Carinthia’s highest parish village, or the gentle route through Swiss pine forests, passing the highest mountain farm in the region.

Whether it’s an alpine meadow walk, a family-friendly hike, or a summit experience – Turracher Höhe offers hiking enjoyment at every level.
